21:03 - Lions Gate Bridge - Golden Hour

We arrived near the end of the Golden Hour and were fortunate to get this shot while the sky was still red, gold and orange. I set up my camera as quickly as I could knowing the scene before me was rapidly changing.

21:14 - Lions Gate Bridge - Golden Hour

Just over ten minutes later, the "Golden Hour" had faded into soft pastels. Most photographers were packing up, but experience told me there were more visual treats to come.

21:27 - Lions Gate Bridge - Blue Hour

Thirteen minutes later and almost all of the yellows and golds had gone. We were now entering the evening "Blue Hour". I like shots taken at this time as visibility is still quite good, but the twinkle of lights is beginning to show. In the shot, you can just see the lights along the main support cables of the suspension bridge, and the homes high on the north shore mountains are becoming apparent.

21:31 - Lions Gate Bridge - Blue Hour

More blue hour photography. The exposure time had increased to six seconds in this shot which has the effect of smoothing out the water and removing the texture details of the clouds. Stanley Park's famous sea-wall supplied the perfect leading lines into the bridge.

21:34 - Lions Gate Bridge - Blue Hour

With an exposure time of 8 seconds, this shot provides the widest angle view of the North Shore mountains including the Lions Gate Bridge. All Golden Hour colour is gone, and the man-made lights are beginning to play a dominant part in this photo.

21:51 - Lions Gate Bridge - Blue Hour

This capture is well inside blue hour - all sun colours have gone and the next 20 minutes are lite by the sun which fell below the horizon almost an hour ago. Again, the long exposure time of 30 seconds has flattened out the water and removed cloud detail. But the bridge lights, house lighting and industrial port lighting is beginning to play a major role in these images.

21.51 - Lions Gate Bridge - Artistic Rendering

This artificial edit involved replacing the featureless cloud cover with something more vibrant and changing the colours to something resembling the result one would expect from a red sky.

21:53 - Lions Gate Bridge - Blue Hour

This final capture is a cropped panorama. The Lions gate Bridge was in the original capture on the left side, but due to the distortion effects of an ultra wide lens, I cropped it out.
