Melbourne CBD from Swan St. Bridge
Looking north-east along the Yarra toward the Melbourne CBD. This view shows the eastern edge of the Central Business District.
This shot was taken at a lower angle than the previous. The near river bank and reeds play a more prominent part in this composition, yet the background is almost identical.
This photo from Princes Bridge shows just a hint of the light from the setting sun. This is the best time to do night photography. The sun sets quickly, so one needs to have camera settings ready for optimum results.
The sun had dropped below the horizon about 30 minutes prior to this photo. Still enough light to show details in the Princes Bridge structure, yet the city lights are providing interesting sparkle.
Federation Bells is an installation comprising 39 upturned bells. Located in Birrarung Marr, 100 Batman Ave, Melbourne, they were created for celebrations of the centenary of Australia's federation in 2001.
This shot views the Southbank region of Melbourne's CBD with the Princes Bridge just visible below the skyline.
I've never seen inside one of these boxes, but apparently they are normally fitted out with storage compartments, perhaps a bed, but definitely a place to sit. No plumbing or electricity hook-up makes for very basic accomodations.
Similar to the previous, this composition features multiple converging lines. Barley noticeable, a man is nearing the end of the boardwalk where it meets the building.
Located in St Kilda Boat Harbour, A couta boat is a type of boat sailed in Victoria, Australia, around Sorrento and Queenscliff and along Victoria's west coast as far west as Portland. It was originally used as a traditional fishing boat around the coast there from around 1870 until the 1930s, although it survived as a commercial fishing vessel until the 1950s.
This is the second time I visited the Brighton Beach bathing boxes. There are close to 100 such mini-houses. Seldom is there a photo essay of Melbourne without these colourful boxes featured. These bathing boxes are privately owned. Last year one sold for over $300,000.
I was fascinated by this composition. The leading lines of the handrail and boardwalk, point directly to the office building in the background.
Creative colourfully painted decor is the objective. These three excell in that category.
Light Trails & Flinders Street Station
The long exposure only captures fixed objects. Cars disappear, people walking are missing, but if you look closely you can pick out 'ghosts' of these objects.
Another lower Yarra river shot taken only metres away from the previous two shots. I'm experimenting with the idea of changing the outcome of photos simply by altering composition. In this shot a question mark shaped tree frames the Eureka Tower in southbank.
I like the way the roofs form interesting triangles and the horizon ties these beach boxes together.
