  • St Paul's Cathedral - Melbourne

    St Paul's Cathedral - Melbourne

The initial reaction to the interior of this building is one of awe. The rich tones set by the beautiful tile floor, colourful arched columns and warm timber pews combine to make this a peaceful and sacred place. St Paul's Cathedral is the seat of the Anglican Primate of Australia and home church for Anglicans in Melbourne and Victoria. St Paul’s Cathedral is built on the site where the first public Christian services in Melbourne were led by Dr Alexander Thomson in 1836.

  • Capped Pylons

    Capped Pylons

Once a wharf holding a wool shed, the decking no longer exists, but the vertical pylons do. To stand sentinel to their historic purpose, they have been left in place and capped with fibre-glass tops which are both attractive and preserve the pylons from rot. The Bolte Bridge can be viewed in the distance.

    Golden Hour on the Yarra

The evening sun had just dropped below the horizon which cast a warm glow across the river and onto the buildings.

  • Hosier Lane

    Hosier Lane

Just around the corner from the cathedral is Hosier lane; what a contrast! What a comment on society. Wall-to-wall graffiti, and wall-to-wall photographers. Hosier Ln. is a specified location for 'street art'. We ran into a little difficulty with some street people who resented photographers. See the next photo.

Some of the people to the right of this photo were not too pleased at the idea of being captured by my photos. After a 'friendly' conversation, the tension was diffused.

We spotted a number of rowing shells, both men and women with the athletes training rigorously.

I was interested to notice when I viewed this on a larger screen, that the female runner was 'airborne' .

    Seafarer's Bridge

This pedestrian/cyclist bridge is heavily used during the post-office hours. Walkers, runners and cyclists share the bridge deck negotiating carefully to avoid collisions.

We spent two days walking extensively around the lower Yarra looking for the best photo op's. This day was very hot (about 34C) which made it hard work.

  • Victoria Harbour

    Victoria Harbour

These old piers capped with stainless steel weather vanes make an interesting piece of art. The cones are perfectly balanced on the pylons and turn gently to the wind. The high rise apartment buildings on the other side, are in theWaterfront City precinct, Melbourne's latest waterfront development.

  • Seafarer's Bridge

    Seafarer's Bridge

I wouldn't normally take shots facing directly into the sun, but the 'god-rays' and silhouettes of people on the bridge make for an interesting composition.

  • Two Spires

    Two Spires

The first spire is the Arts Centre Spire, less prominent since the Eureka Tower (center) has been built. The Eureka Tower is 297m tall. The bridge in the lower right is the Princes Bridge used by cars, trams and pedestrians.
