  • Salt Recovery

    Salt Recovery

This shallow pond hold saline water in an evaporation pond. Water is pumped from an aquifer to a series of ponds where in the sun the water evaporates leaving behind salt deposits. The pink tint of the water is reflective of the salt which is also pink.

  • Murray River Scene

    Murray River Scene

These old jetties from the past string along the river near Mildura. Some may have been for paddle steamers that handled the shipping on the river. However, most appear to be support structures on which pipes were stretched into the deeper water 15 metres out from the shoreline.

  • River Gum

    River Gum

These beautiful giant Gums line most of the river banks on both sides. They have grown to this size due to their constant water source of the river. Unfortunately, many fall into the river as the water erodes the banks under them.

Eucalyptus Oleosa - the Oil Mallee

Mallee is an aboriginal word signifying multi trunked tree. This Mallee is estimated to be around 2500 years old because of its adaptation to the ravages of fire which allow its roots to survive and regenerate new growth

    Dead Gum Tree

As mentioned in the previous shot, many trees succumb to the river bank erosion and end up in the river.

  • Mist on the Murray

    Mist on the Murray

For just a short time, prior to the evaporating heat of the rising sun, the Murray is shrouded in mist as the cold air of night sits over the relative warmth of the river.

  • This Old House

    This Old House

When I see an old house like this I wonder what stories it could tell. This house was located on the Calder Highway on the way to Mildura. I saw it driving to Mildura and made a point of stopping upon my return to take this photo.

  • Reflected Stump

    Reflected Stump

This protruding stump creates a sculptured shape mirrored in the water from which it protrudes.

  • Still River

Another shot of the mist on the Murray River.

  • Silent River

    Silent River

With just a few minutes of light left, waterfoul seam to come out onto the water. These two ducks were the last of a small flock that were swimming past. Fortunately. I was able to get my camera out of my pack in time to capture this shot.

  • Misty Sunrise

    Misty Sunrise

During the colder months, fog hangs over the Murray River from dark to dawn then quickly evaporates with the rising sun. This adds a mystical flavour to photos taken in the early morning.
