This shot was captured the second morning I visited the Jetty. Again the clouds were scattered and the resulting sunrise was a little muted.

We stayed in Palm Cove for seven days. The entire time we saw no boats using this jetty. Apparently, it was originally intended to be the first stage of a multi-million dollar development. However, funding never materialized to complete the project and since, environmental objections have prevented for the project going ahead.

    Sunrise and Kayaks

Whilst only silhouettes against the rising sun, these energetic kayakers were heading out to Double Island Reef. The gentle swell and the cries of the Pacific gulls made this a memorable scene.

This shot, looking south, is of the entire beach that makes up the cove. Taken shortly after sunrise, there is no sign of life on the beach. The long exposure has smoothed out the water.

This sunrise shot was taken a few minutes after the sun appeared above the horizon. Normally, the best Golden Hour photos are taken before sunrise, but I arrived a little late.

This is a long exposure shot. The result is smoothed out water and blurred clouds.

Palm Cove is located in Far North Queensland on the Australian coast. Arlington Reef is the closest section of The Great Barrier Reef to Palm Cove being around 30 km offshore. The reef shelters the inshore waters from the Coral Sea swells creating relatively calm waters between the reef and the beach.

Another view captured with a long exposure. The calmed water surface creates a tranquil marine scene.

This rock formation which I have featured in a number of shots is an extension of the Palm Cove Headland.

One of the ironies of the Australian far north is the beautiful warm weather, sea temperatures ranging from 23* to 29* and broad stretches of sandy beach, the ocean is not suitable for swimming due to salt-water crocodiles. And then there's the thumbnail sized menus, the deadly Irukandji jellyfish
