Split Point Lighthouse - Aireys Inlet

Built in 1890 after the surf coast had claimed some ten shipwrecks. Complete with lighthouse keeper’s quarters, assistant’s quarters, stables and a store room for $20,000 at today's rates. Some 34 metres (112 ft) from the ground and 66 metres (217 ft) above sea level, the lighthouse was automated in 1919.

    Great Egret

It's the least prominent thing in the photo but since I don't have the right lens to capture this bird up close, you will have to locate it yourself.

  • Eagle Rock - Aireys Inlet

    Eagle Rock - Aireys Inlet

Part of Eagle Rock Marine Sanctuary, composed of both hard basalt and rubbly limestone, the cliffs are full of caves and ledges. The shore is covered with boulders and offshore there are two large rocks: Eagle Rock and Table Rock. Table Rock has been levelled by incessant waves whereas Eagle Rock is a tall volcanic stack capped by limestone.

  • Erskine River Suspension Bridge

    Erskine River Suspension Bridge

We 'discovered' this lovely footbridge at the mouth of the Erskine River in Lorne. Everything about this scene evoked a feeling of serenity and calm. The Erskine River is a river in southwestern Victoria, Australia. It arises in the Otway Ranges and enters Bass Strait to the east of Cape Otway through the town of Lorne.

  • Promontory

    Promontory

The south coast of Australia is dotted with promontories extending across vast beaches, sometimes running uninterrupted for kilometre after kilometre.

    Enjoying the View

We were only in Lorne this time for one full day. It was a delightful break from our routines and on this day it was perfect for daytime photography, lots of good clouds and just enough sun.

Few other places in the world offer beaches with clean golden sand that seem to stretch on forever - and often not a person in site.

  • Vast Spaces

    Vast Spaces

It's at times when I'm near the ocean that I am in awe of God's creation - so vast - so magnificent! I hope this panorama conveys this.

This is the south coast at its best.

Serenity Bridge - (name suggested by a viewer)

A slightly different perspective of the previous shot, this one focuses more on the structure next to the bridge. It has a "Cape Cod" design which adds to the atmosphere of the scene. The water in the foreground is still with no wind to disturb it. It looks somewhat like a long exposure shot but as the EXIF shows, the exposure time was set to 1/160th of a second.
