  • South-west Vista

    South-west Vista

The views from the ridge top stretch across rolling hills of Pecan and Oak trees. The remoteness of Bugscuffle Ridge is apparent in this south-west view from the home's balcony.

  • Tiny Texas Toad

    Tiny Texas Toad

I spotted this tiny creature following a brief rain. Apparently, the deck surface held enough rain to assuage its thirst.

  • Pumpjack

    Pumpjack

The land around Bugscuffle Ridge is littered with oil pumps. A pumpjack is the overground drive for a reciprocating piston pump in an oil well. It is used to mechanically lift liquid out of the well if not enough bottom hole pressure exists for the liquid to flow all the way to the surface. The arrangement is commonly used for onshore wells producing little oil. Pumpjacks are common in oil-rich areas.

  • Hummingbirds Feeding

    Hummingbirds Feeding

North American hummingbirds average around 80 beats per second in normal flight. They do NOT flap their wings, they rotate them in a figure 8, which makes it even more remarkable! That also enables them to go BACKWARDS in the air and to hover in ONE SPOT!

  • Sandy Creek

    Sandy Creek

This dry creek bed crosses the road up to Bugscuffle Ridge. Most of the time it is dry, but quickly swells to a flowing torrent following a few hours of rain which blocks access to the top of Bugscuffle Ridge.

  • Dead Tree

    Dead Tree

This White Oak stands in the water of a small reservoir used to provide water for cattle. Bugscuffle Road runs along side this dam. This water is used by the local wildlife which can ofter be seen in the early hours of the morning, or after sunset.

This beautiful homestead sits atop Bugscuffle Ridge surrounded by Pecan Trees with vistas that stretch for miles. The home was designed by my brother and his wife and is hexagonal in shape.

  • Bugscuffle Meadow

    Bugscuffle Meadow

This shot was taken in the bottomland below Bugscuffle Ridge on which my brother's home sits. This is the road that leads up to his house. I was taken by the light filtering through the Pecan trees which form double "cathedral-like" arches.

  • Armadillo

    Armadillo

Critters and creatures are frequent visitors to the ridge. We spotted this amazing creature as it scurried across the property. Wild hogs, deer and turkey are often spotted on Bugscuffle ranch and form a rich source of protein for my brother.

  • The Root of the Matter

    The Root of the Matter

This interesting image shows the way tree roots split apart rock formations. The rock is sedimentary, hence a little soft compared to granite and susceptible to water erosion. The valley bottom is replete with cave-like erosion which needs exploration to determine if North American aboriginal people have used these caves in any way.
