Western Port Bay - June

Western Port Bay is the second largest bay on the south coast of the state of Victoria. The dredged harbour provides shelter for commercial vessels and recreational boaters alike. Phillip Island is the largest island in Victoria and provides a natural breakwater against the Bass Strait creating calm beaches on its north side.

    Tenby Point Tree

This lone tree has been photographed by many photographers. The tide was too low to get the best effect of this mangrove tree which thrives in brackish salt water. Tenby Point is on the east coastline of Western Port Bay.

The White Mangrove (Avicennia marina) is the only mangrove species found in Victoria. It also grows in tropical areas as much larger trees. Mangroves have a range of features that allow them to survive on the edge of the sea in the challenging habitat of thick, airless and salty mud. Taken from a slightly different point of view, I look forward to adding a third shot taken at high tide with a sunset. This view looks north-west.

The long shadows of the late afternoon sun enhance this road as it winds its way through the green pastures of Phillip Island's gentry farmers.

    Sunset Over Cowes

I've taken shots from this location previously, but the setting sun was particularly attractive this night. The"god-rays" in the distant clouds briefly appear before the sun slips beneath the horizon.
