Port Fairy is located near the mouth of the Moyne River which empties into the Bass Strait. It is used mainly by pleasure boaters but does accommodate some commercial fishing boats.
The Couta boat is a type of sailing boat originally designed and built in Victoria, Australia. They are constructed with a wooden hull with the main mast well forward similar to a cat-boat. They are gaff rigged. This shot is a closeup of the rig.
