Wow! Beautifully Detailed Carved Doorway
I'm not sure how this door was constructed. The 3D relief panels in the door may have been metal, but I recall them being carved in wood. Perhaps the two figures at the table give a clue. The guy in the left panel is the craftsman who made the door, and the guy in the right panel the architect who designed it.
Marine Building Elevator Doors
The lobby, small as it is, is a masterpiece. There are five elevators, their doors of solid brass intricately and interestingly designed.
One of the realities of timber doors is that they will eventually need repair. This is especially true in climes where winter snow piles against the bottom of the door. If you look closely at the enlarged photo above, you can see evidence of at least two areas where this door has undergone 'corrective surgery". Look at the difference between the bottoms of the left and right doors. The left door has undergone a rather poor fix.
When you take in the entire structure here, you get an idea of its scale. Consider the door let into the larger twin-hinged gate. It is probably larger that most normal front doors. That provides some idea of the total size of this elaborate structure complete with Corinthian Columns and massive archway.
